Theology

The Master of Sacred Music Program’s purpose is to train professional musicians for work in Christian churches and to prepare those who desire it for the Doctorate in Musical Arts in performance or the PhD in music history or liturgics. Students are admitted with concentrations in organ, choral conducting or voice. Through a program of study that takes advantage of Notre Dame’s strengths in Liturgical Studies, graduates of the program develop a working knowledge of the worship lives of Christian faiths and learn to work skillfully with priests, pastors, and congregations, integrating the pastoral, artistic, and scholarly dimensions requisite for the profession.
