All registered graduate students are automatically enrolled in the Notre Dame student insurance plan unless proof of comparable coverage with an American-based insurance company is provided. The premium of the student health insurance plan is assigned to your student account.

The Graduate School provides a subsidy of the health insurance premium cost for full-time, fully funded students who purchase the University health insurance plan. For the 2012–13 academic year, the base subsidy is $1,410 and the premium is $1,886.

The Student Health Center is open to all degree-seeking students and serves as the primary physician for those students on the university-sponsored health plan. More detailed information is available on the insurance section of the Health Services website.

All degree seeking students who are currently enrolled are eligible for mental health services at the University Counseling Center. If necessary, the UCC can provide referrals to mental health providers in the community as well.

In addition to the maternity coverage offered to graduate students through the university sponsored health plan, full-time degree-seeking students may benefit from either the six week medical leave policy, or the semester long childbirth and adoption accommodation policy. New birth mothers are eligible for the six week leave. The primary care giver, mother or father, is eligible for the semester long accommodation following the birth or adoption of a child. For more information on these policies, please see the Bulletin of Information.
