Notre Dame’s 1,250-acre campus, with twin lakes, makes a perfect setting for many outside recreational and athletic activities. The University’s Office of Recreational Sports provides indoor and outdoor facilities at several campus locations, as well as a full line-up of fitness classes. Graduate students are spectators at any number of Notre Dame varsity athletic events.

Wonderful opportunities for outdoor recreation exist in the South Bend area as well. South Bend’s East Race is the only artificial white-water raceway in North America. Minor league baseball is played at the Coveleski Stadium downtown. Half an hour north are the orchards, vineyards, and ski slopes of southwestern Michigan, and Lake Michigan’s beaches and sand dunes are only forty minutes to the west. In all directions from South Bend are places to swim, hike, and cross-country ski at the area’s many lakes, parks, and nature centers.
