Q: Does Notre Dame have a graduate program in

Q: What are the admission requirements?
A: Application instructions are available once you begin
the application process. See required application materials for definitions and instructions.
Q: How much does graduate school cost?
A: It may cost almost nothing. Most departments support most of their students through fellowships, teaching assistantships, or research assistantships. This support often covers the full cost of tuition and living expenses.
Q: How do I apply to The Graduate School?

application process for all graduate programs at the University
of Notre Dame.

Application, General:
Q: Can the application for the Graduate School
be downloaded?
A: No, the application for the Graduate School
is meant to be completed and submitted directly online.
Q: Can I apply to more than one program?
A: Yes. To apply to more than one program, a new application must be created. Please note that you must create a new user ID and PIN.
Q: If I have submitted an application before, do I need to re-apply?
In order to reactivate your file, you must complete a new online application and when prompted, indicate to which department and year you applied/attended. Upload one copy of your new statement of intent and request the delivery of official transcripts from any undergraduate or graduate institutions you attended since your file was originally established. You may also update any other documentation submitted with your earlier application. No additional application fee is required, provided you paid the fee with your first application.
Q: Can I attach my supporting documents to my online application?
A: Yes. You may attach your statement of intent, curriculum vitae (or resume), and writing sample (if required) to your online application. You may also request to have your recommenders submit letters in support of your application online. If you attach your documents to your online application, please DO NOT mail hard copies to the Graduate School.
Q: Can I attach transcripts to my online application?
A: No. Transcripts are the only documents that must be physically mailed to the Graduate School. Please request to have one copy of your transcripts mailed directly from the appropriate institution to the Office of Graduate Admissions at Notre Dame.
Q: Where do I send documentation that must be physically mailed (e.g,., transcripts, letters of recommendation from writers who wish to submit a hard copy)?
A: All documentation should be sent to Notre Dame's Office of Graduate

Q: What should I do if I have technical difficulties with the application, including a lost User ID or PIN?
A: Please use the Online Support that is built into the online application system. If you have questions regarding the application process, you may direct those inquiries to gradad@nd.edu.
Application Fees:
Q: Do I need to have my application entered before
December 1 to take advantage of the $35.00 fee?
A: Yes. The fee for applications submitted after
December 1 is $50.00.
Q: Can applicants pay for the application
fee by credit card?
A: Yes. You should have your credit card information available when you are submitting your application, because you will not be able to access the credit card payment option after you submit your application.
Q: To whom do I make checks payable?
A: To the University of Notre Dame.
Q: If I paid the application fee with a previous application, do I need to pay again?
No additional application fee is required, provided you paid the fee with your first application.
GRE and TOEFL:
Q: Where can I find institution and department
codes for the University of Notre Dame?
A: The GRE web site maintains updated
PDF lists of institution, department and major codes
on their GRE Download Library page.
Q: What is Notre Dame's University code (GRE/TOEFL)?
A: 1841
Q: Does the Graduate School require applicants
to take the GRE Subject Test?
A: The Graduate School does require the GRE General Test,
which includes verbal, analytical writing, and quantitative
examination sections. The Subject Test is an additional
test, which may or may not be required by the admitting
department. Check the list
of application deadlines and Subject Test requirements
to find out whether your department requires the Subject
Test in addition to the General Test.
Q: Do you have minimum scores for the GRE and TOEFL?
A: If you're taking the TOEFL CBT the minimum score is 250. If it is available in your country and you are taking the TOEFL IBT, then the minimum score is a total of 80 points, with a minimum of 23 on the Speaking section. Individual departments may require higher scores.
The IBT minimums are subject to change as we gain more experience on what these scores actually mean in terms of proficiency.
There are no minimum scores for the GRE, as it is only one of several criteria used for admission.
Letters of Recommendation:
Q: Is there a form for the recommendation letters?
A: No, we do not have a form for recommendation
letters. The recommender should use letterhead stationery
if possible.
