This week, the University is celebrating its inaugural Graduate Student Appreciation Week — offering opportunities for Notre Dame graduate students to participate in events that nurture professional development and academic success, take part in fun and engaging activities, and enjoy free giveaways that celebrate students and foster community.

The week began Monday morning with Graduate School administrators and staff handing out coffee, cocoa, pastries, and t-shirts to all graduate and professional students on their way into classes, labs, and the library. The day also included a “Keep Calm and Carry On” relaxation workshop and an evening pizza party for graduate students with music by a faculty band, The Standard Deviants.

Appreciation Week features events on the professional side, as well. Tuesday was the prime day for events hosted by the Graduate School’s Professional Development program, with offerings such as the Virtual Career Fair for Ph.D. and master’s students, a workshop for students who are beginning their dissertation project, and a writing strategies workshop for international students. Associate Dean of Students John Lubker’s Thursday workshop, “Grad School Game Plan,” addresses skills for time management, overcoming distractions, and maximizing productivity.

Mimi Beck, program director of Graduate Student Life, initiated and organized the week-long celebration. “The hope is that our post-baccalaureates — who comprise nearly a third of the Notre Dame student body — will know that they are a valued part of the University community,” Beck said.
