Fellowship Overview

Notre Dame Luce Fellows receive full-tuition scholarships and stipends of $35,000, on a 12-month basis, that are guaranteed for up to five years as long as fellows are making satisfactory progress toward their degrees. In addition, the University pays the full student health insurance premium during the tenure of the fellowship. Recipients must be U.S. citizens. The Clare Booth Luce Fellowship is funded through the Clare Booth Luce Program, which has become the most significant source of private support for women in science, mathematics and engineering in the United States since its inception in 1989. Luce was a playwright, journalist, U.S. Ambassador to Italy, and the first woman elected to Congress from Connecticut. In her bequest establishing a fellowship program, she sought 'to encourage women to enter, study, graduate, and teach' in science, mathematics, and engineering.
