Academic Year Deadlines

Active Student Registration & Student Records

Register for classes, complete enrollment for the term, request a course audit, obtain transcripts, enrollment verification, and other topics related to student progress.

Doctoral Dissertations & Master's Theses

Resources and guidelines for writing, formatting, and submitting doctoral dissertations and master's theses. (See our friends at Grad Life if you're looking for a writing accountability group or ABD to PhD coaching group!) Defend your dissertation or thesis in our Grad Defense Room, complete with a 16 chair conference table and state of the art video-conferencing and projection technology. Students past or present can submit an artifact related to their dissertation or thesis research for display in the Grad Research Room.

Graduate Resilience Alliance at Notre Dame (GRAND)

Acclimating to graduate student life can be challenging. Studies have shown the importance of friendships and community for overall well-being and happiness at every stage of life. GRAND (Graduate Resilience Alliance at ND) is a brand-new program designed to familiarize first- and second-year students with graduate life and resources at Notre Dame, and promote connection and social engagement with peers and the larger University community.

Graduate Student Life

Grad Life offers a wealth of resources for active graduate students to make the most of their time in graduate school. From the Graduate Student Lounge in Duncan Student Center to programs and events designed to help our students thrive academically, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Graduation & Commencement

Consult the Graduation page to learn what steps to take when you're planning to graduate in August, January, or May, or if you're planning to attend the Graduate School Commencement Ceremony in May.

Family Support Resources

Request a student spouse ID and access to the Wellness Center for your family; consult policies and forms for childbirth and adoption accommodations; or review the Graduate School safety policy for graduate students working in laboratory environments. For more resources designed to support married, parenting, and/or pregnant students, visit the Family Resource Center website. 

Financial Aid

The Office of Financial Aid facilitates loans and offers resources regarding veteran benefits for graduate students at Notre Dame. University scholarships and fellowships for graduate students are typically awarded at the time of admission. For additional funding sources, refer to Funding Opportunities or Student Jobs, below.  

Funding Opportunities

Schedule an appointment with the Office of Grants and Fellowships to apply for competitive funding (such as the GSPDA, below), apply for conference and travel reimbursement through the Graduate Student Government, get out and do something fun with a GO Grant, begin a Summer Tuition Scholarship Application, or refer to the Registrar's Veteran Affairs page for information about applying military benefits toward graduate education.

Graduate School Professional Development Award (GSPDA)

Graduate School Professional Development Awards (GSPDA) support graduate student academic and research training. Funding is available for expenses related to conference presentations, workshops, seminars, short courses, and research at other institutions. GSPDA funding has no specific limit in either amount or number of awards you can receive. GSPDA applications are due 11:59 p.m. the last day of each month and reviewed the 1st of each month, except January, June and July. Funding decisions are made around mid-month.

Reporting Concerns

When the Graduate School says You Matter, it isn't just a catchy tagline — the mental and physical well-being of our students and postdoctoral scholars is a top priority. Sometimes protecting that well-being means reaching out for help navigating an uncomfortable situation or speaking up to bring discrimination, harassment, or misconduct to light.

Shared Expectations

Solarium Gallery Exhibition

The Solarium Gallery Exhibition is a Graduate School tradition that celebrates the creative side of graduate studies by featuring the works of MFA students in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design. We are thrilled to welcome a new select group of art and design pieces each February for display in the light-filled space of the Graduate School offices at 117 Bond Hall.

Student Jobs

Active graduate students seeking part-time employment should always consult first with their home academic department and obtain permission to work from their research advisor, director of graduate studies, and the Graduate School. Consult the Graduate School Bulletin of Information (Financial Information > Tuition and Expenses > Financial Support) for details.
