Renee Bouley, a fourth-year graduate student in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has received a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Individual Predoctoral Fellowship from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The fellowship will provide two years of funding for Bouley’s project, “Discovery of a new class of antibacterials that inhibits penicillin-binding proteins.”

First year applied and computational mathematics and statistics graduate student Claire Chow was recently selected as a Microsoft Research Graduate Women's Scholar. The program is a one-year scholarship program intended to increase the number of women pursuing Ph.D degrees.

Matthew Cooper, a graduate student in the Global Linkages of Biology, Environment and Society (GLOBES) program, was recently nominated for a one-year term on the Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program’s trainee advisory board. He will serve as a mentor to new trainees who will be competing in the IGERT program’s annual video and poster competition.
