Hattiesburg, Mississippi

What were you doing prior to enrolling at Notre Dame?

I was conducting undergraduate research at Georgia Institute of Technology, analyzing environmental DNA while completing a bachelor of science in environmental science at Emory University.

What obstacles did you overcome to attend Notre Dame?

Because my undergraduate institution was also a PWI (Predominantly-White Institution), I had to overcome imposter syndrome compounded by the challenges I've experienced as a student from multiple historically excluded groups and from a different socio-economic status than the majority of my peers.

What do you research?

Habitat and recreational fishing influences on fish populations in lakes.

Which Notre Dame clubs or activities do you enjoy?

Black Graduate Student Association (Co-President), Graduate Students Against Racial Injustice at ND (Co-President), Biology Graduate Student Organization (VP), Association of Women in Science, Schmitt Fellow, GEM University Fellow, UNDERC fellow

off campus

What do you like to do in your spare time for fun? What hobbies do you enjoy?

Anything outdoors including camping, hiking, fishing. Cooking and trying new restaurants.

How do you unwind after a long day of work?/How do you practice self-care?

Cooking while listening to music or my favorite true crime podcasts.

After you graduate, what would you like to do?

I'd like to work as a fisheries researcher in a government agency.

Why did you choose Notre Dame?

I chose ND because of the personal support of the Jones Lab and field research opportunities at UNDERC.
