What is your hometown?

Fort Wayne, Indiana

What were you doing prior to enrolling at Notre Dame?

Prior to enrolling at Notre Dame I was attending Manchester University in North Manchester, Indiana. I earned my bachelor's degree in biology with minors in chemistry and Spanish, while playing collegiate basketball all four years.

What obstacles did you overcome to attend Notre Dame?

In order to come to Notre Dame I had to adjust to independent living in a new city while learning how to budget on a new income.

What do you research?

I am a molecular biologist who researches how a certain gene (known to be a contributor to a rare disease) affects kidney development by utilizing the zebrafish as a model organism.

Which Notre Dame clubs or activities do you enjoy?

I am a Schmitt Leadership Fellow and outreach coordinator for the Pi Day 5K. I am an Association of Women in Science (AWIS) mentor to undergraduates. I also mentor an undergraduate in lab.

Do you live on campus or off?

What do you like to do in your spare time for fun? What hobbies do you enjoy?

I enjoy watching or playing sports. I have two dogs that I like to take on walks around campus. I also enjoy fishing and spending time outdoors.

How do you unwind after a long day of work?/How do you practice self-care?

To unwind, I spend time with my dogs and go for runs/walks.

After you graduate, what would you like to do?

After I graduate, I either want to teach or go into industry research.

Why did you choose Notre Dame?

I chose Notre Dame because it is a renowned school with a great sense of community. I love the culture on campus, specifically on football Saturdays. Also, Notre Dame will provide the experience and knowledge I need to further my career.
