This weekend, hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Notre Dame Class of 2020 returned to their alma mater for long-awaited in-person Commencement Ceremonies. The returning students completed their studies in 2020 and had their degrees conferred virtually in the first year of the pandemic. In total, more than 800 students from the Graduate School earned degrees during the 2019-2020 academic year and nearly 80 returned for their on-campus ceremony on Saturday (May 28) in Leighton Concert Hall in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center. Twenty-eight Notre Dame students named 2022-23 Fulbright US Student Program finalists
Twenty-eight University of Notre Dame students have been selected as finalists, and another seven as alternates, for the 2022-23 Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Established in 1946, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international exchange program, assisting graduate and undergraduate students with pursuing graduate study, teaching English or researching abroad.
Thomas Fuja to serve as interim vice president and associate provost for graduate studies and interim dean of the Graduate School
Thomas Fuja, professor of electrical engineering and faculty director of iNDustry Labs at the University of Notre Dame, has been appointed interim vice president and associate provost for graduate studies and the interim dean of the Graduate School, effective June 1.
A member of the Notre Dame faculty since 1998, Fuja conducts research addressing the reliable transmission of information over inherently unreliable and/or constrained communication channels, especially in the context of wireless systems. Eleven Notre Dame students, alumni awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowships
Established in 1952, the NSF GRFP offers financial support to graduate students in the form of a $34,000 annual stipend and a $12,000 cost-of-education allowance, as well as professional development and international research opportunities.

Graduate School honors 2022 alumni, faculty, and student award winners
The Graduate School is pleased to announce its annual award winners for the 2021–2022 academic year. These awards include: the Distinguished Graduate Alumni Award; the James A. Burns, C.S.C, Award; the Dick and Peggy Notebaert Award; the Eli J. and Helen Shaheen Graduate School Awards; and the Social Justice Award. The award winners will be formally recognized for their achievements at the Graduate Commencement Ceremony to be held at Notre Dame Stadium on May 14.
