Students in new global health graduate program evaluate Haiti cholera project

Incoming students Annette Ruth and Lindsey McAlarnen, who will join Notre Dame’s new Master of Science in Global Health degree program in the fall, are in Haiti with Eck Institute member and project leader Juan Carlos Guzmán to evaluate cholera programs implemented after the deadly fall 2010 outbreak that began in the aftermath of the catastrophic 7.0 earthquake.

Delivered at University of Notre Dame Graduate School Commencement ceremonies, Saturday, May 21, 2011 Good morning everyone. Thank you, Dr. Burish for that nice introduction. Thank you Father Jenkins and Dean Sterling for giving me the opportunity to be here today and to be part of your graduation ceremony. Walking onto this beautiful campus gives me the same excitement that I had 40 or 50 years ago when I would visit my grandfather here. So thank you for letting me wake up my personal echoes and feelings about this great school.

Ambassador Roemer Delivers Graduate School Commencement Address

The University of Notre Dame’s Graduate School recognized 288 master’s and 159 doctoral degree recipients and presented several special awards during Commencement ceremonies today (Saturday) in the North Dome of the Joyce Center. Timothy Roemer, United States Ambassador to India, delivered the Commencement address. He also was recognized as the recipient of the Graduate School’s Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Bill Carbonaro (Sociology) and Shari Herman (Physics) Awarded Inaugural Graduate School Honors

Greg Sterling, Dean of the Graduate School, has announced the winners of two new awards in the Graduate School—one to recognize an outstanding director of graduate studies and the other to recognize an outstanding graduate administrative assistant. The awards, he says, were created to recognize exemplary contributions in graduate studies at Notre Dame.
